Step-by-Step Instructions for Kreatopita
  1. Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add one finely chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  2. Add 500 grams of ground beef to the skillet and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
  3. Stir in 1 cup of uncooked rice, 1 cup of tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon of oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Add a splash of water, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter or oil.
  5. Layer five sheets of phyllo in the baking dish, brushing each layer with butter or oil.
  6. Spoon the beef and rice mixture evenly over the phyllo dough, pressing down gently.
  7. Cover the filling with five additional layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter or oil, tucking the edges down.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let the Kreatopita rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
