Step-by-Step Instructions for Kreatopita
- Heat two tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add one finely chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
- Add 500 grams of ground beef to the skillet and cook for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned.
- Stir in 1 cup of uncooked rice, 1 cup of tomato sauce, 1 tablespoon of oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Add a splash of water, cover, and let simmer for 10 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter or oil.
- Layer five sheets of phyllo in the baking dish, brushing each layer with butter or oil.
- Spoon the beef and rice mixture evenly over the phyllo dough, pressing down gently.
- Cover the filling with five additional layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter or oil, tucking the edges down.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Let the Kreatopita rest for about 10 minutes before slicing.
- Slice into squares and serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley and a wedge of lemon.
