Ingredients

For the Dough
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Provides a rich, soft texture; reduce salt if using salted butter.
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar Creates a smooth, meltaway texture.
  • 2 large Eggs Adds moisture and structure; use flax eggs for vegan.
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Helps bind ingredients; non-dairy milk can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Fragrant flavor, substitute with almond extract if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon Almond Extract Adds nutty notes; can be omitted.
  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides structure; gluten-free blends are suitable.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Balances sweetness; sea salt is recommended.
For the Color and Texture
  • 1 bottle Purple Gel Food Coloring Creates vibrant color without adding moisture.
  • 1 cup Purple Sprinkles Adds a fun, crunchy texture.
  • 1 cup Black or Chocolate Sprinkles Provides a delightful coating.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling Pin
  • Sharp knife
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment Paper

Method

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and milk, mixing until smooth, then gradually incorporate flour, salt, vanilla, and almond extract until well combined.
  2. Divide the dough into three equal portions. Color one with purple gel food coloring, leave the second white, and color the final portion black.
  3. Roll the black and white dough into two rectangles (6x12 inches each) and stack them. Roll tightly to form a log.
  4. Roll out the purple dough, sprinkle with purple sprinkles, and roll it into a log to be used for assembly.
  5. Position the purple log at one end of the black-and-white stack and roll the stack over it, enclosing the purple log completely.
  6. Wrap the spiral log tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the chilled log into ¼-inch rounds and place on parchment-lined baking sheets with space between them.
  8. Sprinkle additional purple sprinkles on top and bake for about 10 minutes until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
