Ingredients

For the Regular Pumpkin Syrup
  • 1 cup water Essential base liquid for the syrup consistency.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Provides sweetness and richness; substitute with coconut sugar for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree Adds depth and authentic autumn flavor; ensure it's pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling.
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice A blend of warm spices for fall flavor; can substitute with a homemade spice mix.
  • 1 pinch salt Optional; enhances the flavor of the syrup.
For the Sugar-Free Pumpkin Syrup
  • 1 cup sugar-free brown sugar sweetener Offers sweetness without calories; consider using erythritol or stevia.
For the Vegan Pumpkin Syrup
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup A natural sweetener suitable for vegan diets; can be replaced with agave syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Adds a delightful aromatic flavor; opt for pure vanilla.

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together 1 cup of water, your selected sweetener (brown sugar for regular, sugar-free sweetener, or maple syrup for the vegan version), ½ cup pumpkin puree, 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, and a pinch of salt if desired.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the sweetener fully dissolves, which should take about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Once the mixture begins to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it gently bubble for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
  5. Allow the pumpkin syrup to cool completely in the saucepan, which will take around 15-20 minutes, and then transfer it to an airtight container.
