Ingredients

For the Base
  • 1 cup Softened Salted Butter Unsalted butter can be used to control salt levels.
  • 1 tsp Salt Adjust to taste or use unsalted butter for less saltiness.
For the Flavor Blend
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds Substitute with sunflower seeds for a unique twist.
  • 1 tbsp Dill Seeds Anise seeds can be an excellent substitute.
  • 2 tbsp Dried Minced Onion Fresh onion can work, but will change the texture.
  • 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds Consider black sesame seeds as a visual alternative.
  • 2 tsp Dried Minced Garlic Use fresh garlic sparingly to prevent overwhelming the mix.
  • 1 tbsp Caraway Seeds Fennel seeds can serve as a good swap.
For the Final Touch
  • 1 tbsp Reserved Seed Mixture For rolling the butter before chilling.

Equipment

  • heavy skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Hand Mixer
  • Plastic wrap

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a heavy skillet over medium-low heat, add the sesame seeds. Toast them gently for about 3–5 minutes until they turn golden brown and release a nutty aroma.
  2. Remove the sesame seeds and allow them to cool. Add the dill seeds, dried minced onion, poppy seeds, dried minced garlic, and caraway seeds to the skillet. Heat for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant, then cool completely.
  3. In a mixing bowl, lightly beat the softened butter for about 1 minute until creamy. Reserve 1 tablespoon of the cooled seed mixture and add the rest to the butter, mixing until evenly blended.
  4. Spoon the flavored butter onto a sheet of plastic wrap and form it into a log shape. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  5. Unwrap the butter and roll it in the reserved seed mixture, pressing lightly to coat thoroughly. Re-wrap and chill for 2 days for best flavor infusion.

Notes

Ensure butter is fully softened for easier mixing. Keep the heat low when toasting seeds to enhance flavor. Let the seed mixture cool completely before adding to preserve the butter's consistency. For enriched flavor, chill the butter for two days before serving.
