- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the prepared pears, granulated sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir continuously for 2-3 minutes until thickened and fragrant. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Transfer mixture to a baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup of light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cut in 1/4 cup of cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually mix in 1/4 cup of milk until the dough comes together.
- Sprinkle dollops of the topping mixture evenly over the pear filling in the baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving warm or at room temperature, possibly with ice cream.
